Maths "It's ok, we will wait for you"

This week, we have been practising using our 'wait time' talk tool in maths. We have been looking at this picture and asking questions about it.

Whilst we have worked on figuring out the answers, we have been using our "wait time"

"It's okay to take your time"

"Think about your answers before you say them"

"We will wait for you"

We had so many questions to ask about the bee picture...

What shape are the honeycombs?

How many honeycombs are there?

How many empty honeycombs are there?

Why/how do the honeycombs fit together?

We enjoyed working together to try and figure out some of the answers.

Science in a Van

Wow! What a morning we had!

We began our morning with a whole school assembly where we learned about forces. Objects move if you push or pull them...but gravity has a part to play too.

After morning tea, we had a junior session during which we learned about mixtures and gases. We now know that if you mix two materials together they can mix, separate or cause a reaction.  We also found out that some gases are heavier than air like carbon dioxide, and that some are lighter, such as helium.

It was good fun and we now have lots more science knowledge in our brains!

Here is a video of our session...beware, Miss Rhodes filmed some in slow-motion, so there are some flashing lights!

What a week!

We have had a great week in Room 2. We began on Monday with a circle time...we had fun telling each other our marvellous qualities and sharing our Monday morning feelings...

On Tuesday it was Kapa Haka - Here we are learning a new song, that we later performed to the seniors!

This week we have been sharing our news. It was the first week that we have had a 'news topic' to talk about. We all spoke about our Mum.  We found out that our Mum's like lots of the same things (can you guess what that was!?) We used our "Strong Speaking Elephant" voices.
On Thursday we learned how to use Math's Whizz. It is very exciting and we are looking forward to using it in class next week.

Room 2 are respectful of their environment

At the beginning of our first week in school, we developed our own class treaty. One of our ideas was that we would take care of ourselves, each other and our environment. This week we have been working on looking after our classroom equipment. We have a pencil holder on our table and we know where to find and put away alphabet mats, scissors and glue sticks.  Our rocket group is responsible for keeping our table tidy.

Room 2 are bucket fillers

Today we had our first circle time. We had a blast playing games and getting to know each other. We talked again about being bucket fillers. We were excited to see the results of our stone painting venture from last week. Our stones are painted and sealed and now we are going to use them to fill our class bucket.

Each stone represents one of our school values:

Thoughtfulness - red
Resilience - yellow
Empathy - green
Enthusiasm - blue
Respect - pink

If we see someone being a bucket filler, or we are bucket fillers, we will share this with the class and decide which colour stone to put in the bucket.

Once the bucket is full - we will have a special class reward!
